Infected by Mushroom
by Wojciech Wnuk on February 28, 2013
I kept saying that I can’t write about music, but… Probably I can’t anyway, but I couldn’t resist writing about a band that… infected me some time ago and I still cannot be cured. And in fact, I don’t want to.
First time I’ve heard Infected Mushroom, was few years ago and it was Smashing the Opponent featuring Jonathan Davies of Korn on vocals. It was the first of their songs I got addicted to, but not the last one. Even though, for a long time I didn’t even remember about them, but suddenly… I rediscovered their music around a month ago.
Apart from technical side of their music… It simply kicks with emotions. Mild, melancholic melodies, building the atmosphere and then powerful beats, expressive vocals. This music makes your thoughts flow and motivates to be strong (especially Sa’eed, at least it really works for me).
Harsh guitar riffs, electronic beats, perfect usage of vocals (sometimes without lyrics, but… you really don’t need lyrics to grab meaning of the sound). Humming, piano, gregorian choir and… banjo made a perfect integrity in Pletzturra.
Although the track which recently really crushed me is Heavyweight. It is just the essence of this power along with melodies, weaving emotions and then just playing with their tension. Melancholy or rather nostalgia, a moment of some suspension and then an electrifying blow, causing shivers.
Electronic music may be associated with coldness and artificiality, but not here. Infected Mushroom makes us feel every sound they incorporate in their music. At least I perceive it this way and well… I simply leave you, my dear readers, with Heavyweight:
